Common Skincare Concerns

Our skin undergoes the most major changes – more than any other organ in our bodies – because it is the largest and a vastly external organ. One might take up on regular smoking which affects the lungs, or regular drinking which affects the liver, but one organ that gets affected by every single habit that is adopted by the proprietor is the skin.

Of course, a lot of people already know the dos and don’ts as well as the how’s and whys of skin care, but some people are literally unaware of the sure-tell signs that their skin gives them from time to time simply because they don’t pay enough attention. The main function of the skin is to separate, in order to protect the internal organs from the harmful elements of the outside world.

However, if one fails to take proper care of their skin for a long period of time, it’s very possible that their skin will begin to deteriorate. Thus, we’ve put together a list of the most prevalent skin issues that can affect any human being but can still be easily avoided with proper care.

Eczema is referred to as atopic dermatitis that can cause itchy dry patches throughout the whole body. It’s not difficult to identify the symptoms of eczema. The most telltale signs are desiccated and itchy rashes on any part of the body including the face, behind the knees, hands, feet, or inside the elbows. Most doctors believe that you can only be affected by eczema if someone in your family has or had it. There are natural remedies one can use at home to combat the effects of Eczema. Shea butter has been known to be an excellent remedy to help reduce the itchiness effects of Eczema. Using products whose main ingredients contain Shea butter can help one significantly reduce and moisturize any dry patches.

Acne is commonly found in people of all ages. It is a disease that impinges on oil glands in the skin, and is one of the most prevalent skin conditions around the world. In fact, numbers prove that around 80% of the world’s population experiences acne at some point in their life. The symptoms are zits all around the affected area. Using products that contain organic green tea can help you reduce acne breakouts and significantly improve the production of sebum on your skin. Organic Green tea cuts down on sebum production; which can significantly help reduce acne breakouts.

Wrinkles are not exactly a skin condition, but certainly a skin issue for many people. They’re actually a skin issue that is bound to show up as you age and get older. It’s a sign of skin aging, and the most common causes of it are smoking and too much exposure to sunlight, among other things surrounding improper skin care. A lot of people turn to over-the-counter products that claim to have some sort of a reverse effect on aging, but this doesn’t always work. A lot of women also turn to chemical peels, botox injections, etc., but in the long run, these only ruin and weaken the skins ability to heal and repair itself. Shea butter has been known to help protect the skin from some of the harmful effects of sunlight exposure. Always remember to wear sunscreen and look at the ingredients to avoid toxins.

One of the worst skin conditions, psoriasis normally causes the skin to be swollen and scaly. When a person is affected with psoriasis, they are likely to notice visible patches of thick, red skin with silver scales which either itch a lot or feel incredibly sore. Usually, the elbows, knees, lower back, palms, scalp, face, parts of arms or legs, and foot soles are infected by these patches of skin. However, psoriasis isn’t just limited to these areas – thus, it can be difficult to really discern the skin condition in one look. Doctors usually do a patch test before diagnosing the patient in question with psoriasis. In most cases, the patch test is done by observing the patch under a microscope as well. The treatment of the condition also varies depending on the severity of the condition itself.

Impetigo is a skin condition that is more likely to affect children in their adolescent years, usually when they’re between the ages of two to six years. Impetigo is the result of bacteria that manages to break into the skin through something as simple as a cut, an insect bite or even a slight bruise or scratch. This is also because children aged 2-6 usually have a rather weak immune system which is why they aren’t able to fight the infection or bacteria. The most common systems of impetigo are pimple-like sores that are lined with red skin. These sores might be sensitive to the touch and might even fill up with pus, breaking open after a few days after which a thick crust forms around it. The condition is treated with antibiotics.

Hives is a relatively common skin condition and is identified by the appearance of red and itchy bumps on the skin. It is commonly caused by an allergic reaction to some sort of food or a drug and is more prevalent in people who are prone to allergies or already have allergies of some kind. Hives normally linger on the skin for a few days or some weeks and then disappear on their own, but in some cases, a medical check-up followed by a course of antibiotics might be necessary. Another factor that might incite hives is too much stress or frequent infections. Hives can also be a side effect of toxic ingredients in the products you use.

Skin Cancer

In the United States of America alone, skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer. Since the skin is certainly the largest organ of the human body, there are a lot of different types of cancers that can affect a person. Many people believe that a person can only develop skin cancer if someone in their family has or had it at some point in life. However, the most common cause of skin cancer is exposure to ultraviolet light, which proves that skin cancer is not inherited in more than half of the cases. Melanoma and basal cell carcinomas are two most common types of skin cancer and are identified by lesions or skin growths that are pink in color and have a crusted center.

If you have any unnatural looking bumps on any part of your skin, it’s always best to contact your doctor at your earliest.
